Study - Portrait IV

“I become attuned to the rhythm of my breathing, and with each gentle movement, I find a deeper connection to the artwork.”

The soft, dreamy natural light envelops the subject, gently illuminating the scene and creating an atmosphere of tranquility and contemplation. This captivating softness gives a unique quality to this drawing that sets it apart from my previous works. The interplay of clarity, contrast, and sharpness in specific areas amplifies the overall gentleness, unveiling a raw vulnerability I wasn’t certain I could achieve. Though I had a vision for this piece, translating that vision into reality felt uncertain.

When I draw, I often have reference material but I seldom begin with a preliminary sketch. My process is more intuitive, guided by an inner voice that leads me on a singular journey, each stroke a spontaneous decision. The special quality of the paper allows for little correction, urging me to slow down, remain soft and deliberate.

Drawing becomes a meditative practice, where each line is a moment of introspection. I become attuned to the rhythm of my breathing, and with each gentle movement, I find a deeper connection to the artwork. The act of drawing transforms into a serene dialogue between my inner world and the unfolding image, fostering a state of mindful presence.
